Bob Dylan - The Times they are a changin Guitar Chords, Lyrics, Tabs, Song Meanings and Facts

bob dylan, the times they are a changin
Absolute honour to post this song here today on my blog. One of my most loved songs by one of my most loved artists, the legendary Bod Dylan. Possibly one of the best written meaningful songs, by our great man himself.

Released in 1964 (that's 20 years before I was born :P), the title track of the album "The times they are a changin'", this song became a sensation, like an anthem for the frustrated youth. Simple and mellow guitaring, Bob's unorthodox voice, and the brilliant lyrics made this song what it is today.

About the meaning, Bob Dylan recalled writing the song as a deliberate attempt to create an anthem of change for the moment. In the liner notes of this album Biograph, Dylan wrote: "I wanted to write a big song, some kind of theme song, with short, concise verses that piled up on each other in a hypnotic way. This is definitely a song with a purpose. I knew exactly what I wanted to say and who I wanted to say it to."

And truly, this song had all the meaning and everythig that was required to start a movement, and this song can also relate to so many things in today's life. So many artists, and many of the well known artists has covered this song, Tracy Chapman, Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), Billy Joel to name a few.

So, here's the guitar chords for this masterpiece by Bod Dylan. It's a simple progression, you can use G instead of Gmaj7 if you aren't comfortable with Gmaj7. Well, the chord switching is a bit fast and you need to listen to the track carefully, and play with the track for a couple of times, for the strumming and the chord switching pattern.

G Em C G
Come gather 'round people wher- ever you roam
G Am C D
And ad- mit that the waters ar- ound you have grown,
G Em C G
And ac- cept it that soon you'll be drenched to the bone,
G Am D
If your time to you is worth saving,
D7 Gmaj7 D
Then you'd better start swimming or you'll sink like a stone,
G C D G
For the times they are a- chang- ing!

G Em C G
Come writers and critics who prophe- size with your pen,
G Am C D
And keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come a- gain.
G Em C G
And don't speak too soon, for the wheel's still in spin,
G Am D
And there's no telling who that it's naming.
D7 Gmaj7 D
For the loser now will be later to win,
G C D G
For the times they are a- chang- ing!

G Em C G
Come senators, congressmen, please heed the call,
G Am C D
Don't stand in the doorway, don't block up the hall.
G Em C G
For he that gets hurt will be he who has stalled,
G Am D
There's a battle out- side and it's raging.
D7 Gmaj7 D
It'll soon shake your windows and rattle your walls,
G C D G
For the times they are a- chang- ing!

G Em C G
Come mothers and fathers, through- out the land,
G Am C D
And don't criti- cize what you can't under- stand.
G Em C G
Your sons and your daughters are be- yond your com- mand,
G Am D
Your old road is rapidly aging.
D7 Gmaj7 D
Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand,
G C D G
For the times they are a- chang- ing!

G Em C G
The line it is drawn, the curse it is cast,
G Am C D
The slow one now will later be fast.
G Em C G
As the present now will later be past,
G Am D
The order is rapidly fading.
D7 Gmaj7 D
And the first one now will later be last,
G C D G
For the times they are a- chang ing!
